Storms Yesterday Brought Flooding and Lightning Strikes to Our Area.

February 7, 2020

Cherokee County firefighters were busy yesterday as heavy rainfall moved through our area.

At one time, Cherokee County was under a Flash Flood Warning, Severe Thunderstorm Warning and a Tornado Watch.  According the Cherokee County 911, firefighters responded to two house fires yesterday morning due to lightning strikes.  Fortunately, the damage was minimal and firefighters were able to put out the fires quickly.

We also experienced flooding and trees over the roadways during this time.  Nearly 50 calls came in regarding roads hazards during a a 12-hour period.  Firefighters were also dispatched to power lines being down on Trade Winds Court and Trade Winds Drive.    Several roadways had minor flooding, however, there were reports of serious flooding in the area of Johnson Brady Road that was completely covered in water and an area around Boling Park was also heavily flooded.
